Snowflakes Melt On My Cheek
Snow found its way into my eye
And frigid, frosty weather showed a way
To an ever turmoiling, cascading calm
Frantic yet still, keeping the sun at bay.
As I walked into the eye of hail,
I waited for a single snowflake to find me
Upon its arrival, a vision struck,
And I could only see the road behind me.
I lived, how I lived but seldom conquered
Every decision, and many more decisions beget
The snow that surrounds me, on my lips tinged
With the faintest, yet the most bitter regret.
Every road in the woods, trodden and ruined,
A path I can neither pave nor repair,
But I shall march, walk or only crawl forth,
The price of living is the most beautiful despair.
To suffer is to live, to live is to mourn,
I rejoice as the nails pierce my open palms.
Perhaps my path diverged when I left you,
My beloved, Beatrice, my cascading calm.
And as I stand, with snow on my boots,
I raise my fist against the winter bleak.
I take up arms, a smile etched on my face,
While snowflakes melt gently on my cheek.
